Refuse & Recycling
You are familiar with those huge recycle bins that take up a lot of space in your garage? Well make room for another large bin. The new refuse bins will be a permanent addition to your garage or wherever you store them. While these things work pretty well during the Summer time, during the Winter, they are just a big pain in the you know what. So much easier to just put out a couple of bags of trash rather than dragging these bins around and trying to find some place to put them when there is three feet of snow plowed up on the curbs. Then you don't have to go out and drag the garbage bin back in again. But alas, it is not to be anymore. Plus, you have to space these bins out so that there is at least two feet of space inbetween any other bin or object.
On June 9th, 2008 the new bins will need to be used for any trash collection. Anything not in the bin will be charged extra for pickup.
Stickers will need to be purchasaed for trash bags unable to fit within the 96 gallon bins. Stickers will be sold for $3 for packs of 10 at three or four sites throughout the city, including the Sun Prairie Municipal Building. Three stickers will be distributed for free at the time the new refuse carts are delivered to city residents
Another change is cash on delivery for pick-up of bulk items. Green Valley will charge residents a flat fee, which must be paid at the time of pick-up, to haul away large bulk items ranging from five dollars for mattresses and/or box springs to fifty dollars for riding lawn mowers.

Appliance pick-up will picked up curbside by Moor Salvage and Recycling during the last Tuesday of each month. Residents must call the Sun Prairie Public Works Department at 837-3050 to be placed on the collection list.
The city’s recycle center is also available for disposal of products that are not collected curbside. The Recycle Center, located at 1798 South Bird Street, accepts the following materials from residents of one to four-unit dwellings: Appliances, auto motor oil, brush, metal items, automotive batteries, yard waste, vehicle tires and fluorescent lightbulbs.
